Formula 1 competitor Liam Lawson stated he came dangerously close to a life-threatening collision during Sunday's F1 event in Mexico when a pair of track officials ran across the track right in his path

The alarming incident happened on the third rotation when track officials were spotted on the track as Lawson was returning to the race following an premature pit stop to change his broken nose section

Racer's Instant Response

Shortly afterward, the team's competitor Lawson spoke to his race engineer saying: "Are you kidding me? Did you just see that? I nearly... ended their lives"

"I truly couldn't comprehend what I was witnessing"

"I rejoined with a brand new hard tyres, and then I arrived at Turn One and suddenly there were two dudes running across the track"

"I nearly hit one of them, frankly, it was incredibly risky"

Track Safety Questioned

"Evidently there's been a failure in communication at some point but I've never experienced that before, and I haven't really seen that in the past. It's completely unacceptable"

"We fail to grasp how on a ongoing race track safety personnel can be allowed to just run across the track in such a way. I don't understand the reason, I'm certain we'll get some form of reasoning, but this must never be repeated"

Governing Body Reviewing

The sport's regulatory authority, the global motorsport federation, is actively examining the situation

"Following a turn one incident, track officials was advised that fragments were located on the track at the turning point of that curve" commented the governing body

"During the third lap, marshals were alerted and put on alert to access the circuit and clear the fragments once every vehicle had gone by"

"As soon as it became apparent that Lawson had made a pit stop, the directives to deploy officials were canceled and a caution signal was raised in that zone"

"We are still investigating what happened after that point"
